About Samantha Mooney
Sam is a highly skilled gynaecologist & fertility doctor, with specialist training in minimally invasive surgical techniques. Sam provides specialised care at Mercy Hospital for Women, Epworth Healthcare, Warringal Hospital and Genea Fertility.
Sam has just launched the Heide Clinic - a specialist gynaecology & women's health clinic in Heidelberg.

Training & Accreditation
Sam is a consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist in Melbourne. Sam works publicly as a gynaecologist in the Endosurgery Department at Mercy Hospital for Women, Heidelberg. Sam provides fertility care at Genea, Heidelberg. She sees her private gynaecology and fertility patients at the Heide Clinic in Heidelberg, a holistically designed multidisciplinary clinic for the care of women and gender diverse people.
Sam is not currently accepting private obstetric patients in 2026-2027.
Sam completed training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in metropolitan and regional Victoria. She then completed a two-year AGES fellowship at Mercy Hospital for Women from 2018 to 2019, resulting in accreditation as an advanced laparoscopic gynaecological surgeon. She was awarded the AGES/Hologic® Travelling Fellowship for Hysteroscopic Surgery in 2020, and travelled to the Netherlands in 2023 to observe their work in hysteroscopic treatment of intrauterine adhesions, a condition related to infertility and obstetric complications. Sam is currently progressing her training in robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgical techniques. She is also midway through her PhD at the University of Melbourne, investigating the impact of pre-pregnancy surgery on outcomes for mothers and babies.

Research & Publications
Sam is an early career researcher and PhD candidate at the University of Melbourne with interests in endometriosis, persistent pelvic pain, and infertility.
She has assisted with establishing new prospective databases for multidisciplinary management of deep infiltrating endometriosis, and outpatient hysteroscopic procedures. Sam is the principal investigator leading several exciting and innovative multi-centre research studies in benign gynaecology. She recently presented some of her work at the 2025 AAGL World Congress in Vancouver, Canada, and is an invited speaker at the upcoming AGES ASM in Auckland.

& Junior Doctors
Sam is the current supervisor of junior doctors undertaking the Diploma of Obstetrics & Gynaecology (DRANZCOG/PTP) and the Certificate of Womens’ Health (CWH) awards at Mercy Hospital for Women.
Sam supervises junior doctors in their gynaecology training at Mercy Hospital for Women, and mentors several university students undertaking the research component of their medical degree.


Life beyond work
Sam is mum to two young and spirited kids, and fancies herself as a talented Brio train set engineer and knows a bit more than she thinks necessary about Minecraft.
When not at work, Sam enjoys weekend adventures in the outdoors, and can often be seen exploring Melbourne’s surrounds by bicycle with her family. The family dog, Pinot (Noir), also deserves a mention, providing infinite furry cuddles after the workday is done.
